Resort/City Information - MALEME |  | Maleme: Situated 16 kilometers far from Chania, at the West, just off the Old Road to Kastelli, Maleme is a beautiful historic village by the sea. It has been one of the fields of the ““battle of Crete”” during the World War II. Today it is a pretty well developed village with a lot of tourists choosing it for holidays.
It is worth seeing the German military cemetery, made for the more than 4.500 German soldiers and officers who lost their lives on the island during the World War II.
Close to the village, on a hillside, at ““Kaykales”” you can a Late Minoan vaulted tomb, with interesting architecture.
Some 16 kilometers far from Maleme, at the South, the village Deres is worth visiting for its magnificent landscape; the village is built at a site full of chestnut, walnut and olive trees, with the river Dekassimiotis crossing the village. The village is a spot of freshness, especially in summer.
