Pomorie was an ancient town named Anchialo established in 400BC. In 1906 most of the town was destroyed by a fire. New buildings were built but poor quality material causing them to crumble and the entrance to Pomorie looks neglected and less attractive. The town is on a narrow five kilometre long peninsula. The northern most of the Bourgas lakes is on the one side and the sea on the other. The lake has a very high salt content and salt is produced from it. Wine making is also a very important and brandy and white wine are popular products. There are also mineral mud baths. The beach contains iron in the sand and it becomes very hot in the sun. Ideal place to rest and be treated in the mud baths. Very popular: 29 hotels and 294 guest houses. Pomorie has some old architecture like the very rare Thracian Tomb of 3rd century AD.
